Director
Office of Public Safety - ITHACA COLLEGE
Ithaca College invites applications for the position of Director of Public Safety. This vital position is responsible for the direction, coordination, and administration of the activities and services of the Office of Public Safety. The Director will oversee patrol and security services, environmental health and safety, and parking and traffic services; promote and ensure the safety and security of College students, personnel, and property; ensure enforcement of all applicable College regulations, criminal codes, and government safety requirements; and develop policies and procedures governing all campus safety operations. The successful candidate will also develop and submit a comprehensive departmental budget, oversee emergency management and the investigation of major campus incidents, and serve as the interface with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs & Campus Life and has primary responsibility for the direction and supervision of all personnel within the Office of Public Safety.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in law enforcement required. Proven supervisory and management experience; demonstrated ability to effectively direct, plan, and administer a comprehensive, community-oriented policing agency or division; emergency management experience; excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; and a valid driver’s license also required. Previous experience working in a college or university setting and an understanding of law enforcement issues specific to colleges and universities strongly preferred.

Director of Campus Safety and Security
Marymount Manhattan College
Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) is an urban, independent undergraduate liberal arts college with a student body of approximately 2,100 students. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse population by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth. The College is centrally located on Manhattan's Upper East Side at 221 East 71st Street.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Director of Campus Safety and Security provides strategic leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of a University-wide safety and security program. Providing a safe and secure environment, while keeping the College's campus and facilities open and inviting to the communities they serve. This position is responsible for the campus' security posture including oversight and management of security operations, the emergency response and management plans, occupational health and safety programs, and training and professional development for these functional areas.
Special Function: Responsibilities of this position include management of emergency and crisis situations which may occur outside of normal working hours. Be accessible by telephone in case of emergency 24 hours, 7 days per week. Requires an on-site arrival within 1 hour, normal travel time, from place of residence.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
*Responsible for law enforcement, security, including equipment, periodic training and code compliance, fire safety operations, including equipment, training and code compliance, environmental health and safety and other campus safety related operations on main campus and at off campus residence halls in support of the educational and residential activities of students, faculty, staff and members of the general public.
*Establish and enforce standard operating procedures, supervise the operational, personnel and financial activities of the department, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
*Maintain effective, collaborative and proactive relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as other college and university police and security departments.
*Prepare and maintain records, reports and correspondence regarding all aspects of the department, security, safety, employment and discipline in compliance with College business practices, regulations of local, state and federal laws.
*Develop and manage annual budgets for the organization.
*Oversee and administer unit facilities and equipment inventories, as appropriate
*Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Personnel
*Manage the overall operations of the Security guards to investigate incidents and recommend appropriate actions to ensure the safety of the campus community.
*Manage daily activities of Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.
*Recruit, select, and supervise staff of full-time and part-time security personnel.
*Develop and implement effective state-mandated and in-service training programs for security personnel that support policy enforcement, fire safety, and accident prevention.
*Develop and conduct formal and informal personnel evaluations in accord with standard College procedures to ensure adherence to the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct.
Enforcement and Prevention
*Direct a continuous patrol of College property to prevent crime and to protect life and property, enforce appropriate college regulations, and render service to the public.
*Conduct follow-up investigations of incidents and recommend corrective action.
*Conduct educational programs for students faculty and staff in the interest of crime, accident and fire prevention.
*Administer employee badging and security systems including alarms. Responsible for distribution of parking permits.
*Coordinate working relationships with the Dean of Students Office concerning the student judicial process and discipline proceedings.
Life Safety
*Provide leadership for the management of the campus emergency preparedness including writing and/or updating security and emergency preparedness manuals, protocols, procedures and other policies and operating statements.
*Direct and coordinate decision making in emergency situations
*Review, investigate, and analyze reported violations of safety laws and regulations and recommend corrective action for deficiencies.
*Plan, develop, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, and programs related to safety practices applicable to employees, students, and visitors.
*Plan and ensure quick and effective departmental action during emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences discipline. Master's degree preferred.
*Ten years experience in law enforcement involving progressively more complex assignments and supervisory responsibility.
*At least five years of progressively responsible experience in campus safety including environmental health and safety.
*Experience in a higher education environment, working with student, staff and faculty populations.
*Experience managing a diverse work force highly desirable.
*Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to crime, safety and fire codes. Familiarity with relevant federal laws (Jeanne Clery Act) and New York State laws (Suzanne Lyall Campus Safety Act), and New York City Fire Safety and Emergency Response protocols as well as current campus security trends and best practices.
*Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with various security systems.
*Excellent oral and written communications skills.
*Knowledge of public relations and skilled in developing community relations between the campus community and surrounding neighborhoods.
*Ability to work effectively within the culture of the College, with sensitivity to issues of diversity.
*Must have a collaborative style of leadership, with the ability and willingness to foster a team environment within the department.

Harford Community College, in its 50th year of serving the educational
and recreational needs of Harford County, has a student population
of more than 5,600 credit students and 15,500 non-credit students,
and employs more than 1,000 full- and part-time employees and
instructors.
A cohesive team is critical to serving the safety and security
needs of the College community. The College Security Officer IV
is responsible for college security operations including the supervision
of in-house and contracted security personnel on the employee's
assigned shift.
Daily duties include traffic control, building security, and incident
response, investigation, and reporting. Normal hours for 2nd shift
security personnel are 3 - 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. Scheduling
flexibility is required based on the needs of the College.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
An associate's degree in criminal justice, public administration,
or a related field and at least three yeas of experience in public
safety, private security, and/or college security (internship
and/or co-op experience may count toward one year of experience).
OR
High school diploma or equivalency and formal certificate training
in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field;
and at least five years of experience in public safety, private
security, and/or college security.
Candidates should have exceptional communication and organizational
skills, have an appreciation for the role of public safety within
a higher education environment, and be experienced in working
within and across diverse populations. A valid driver's license
is required.
