Sergeant – Investigator

The Gettysburg College is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) Sergeant to work in the Department of Public Safety. The position’s primary function is the department’s administrative investigator and serves as a supervisor to the field training program. The Sergeant is a uniformed position that is assigned to respond to incidents and emergencies and conduct daily security operations and tasks for a patrol shift. Public Safety operates on a 24/7/365 schedule and officers can rotate schedules based on departmental needs. In the absence of a shift Lieutenant, the Sergeant performs a variety of shift leader and basic supervisory duties. The Sergeant will additionally assist Lieutenants in the completion of specific administrative duties and tasks, to include: performance appraisals, counseling, discipline, mentoring, coaching, training, and staff development.

Successful candidates must be able to be PA ACT 235, Lethal Weapons Training, certified within six months of hire. Other requirements include a minimum of a High School education or GED. A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred. A minimum of five (3-5) years’ experience as a law enforcement officer or security officer with at least two (2) years supervisory or lead work experience and at least one (1) year of investigative field experience preferred. Experience within a campus setting strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of the Clery Act and Title IX preferred. A combination of experience and formal education may be substituted for the service and supervisory years of experience stated above.
